Thank you for your interest in Medical Oncology. Our mission is to apply world-renowned research and innovative treatments for the delivery of leading-edge and compassionate care for individuals with cancer.

The Division of Medical Oncology provides diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of all malignant disorders including solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. Faculty of the Division participate in the research and development programs of the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Institute for Genomic Science and Policy, the Center for Excellence in Molecular Hematology, the Cancer Prevention and Control Program, the Cancer Genetics Network, the Drug Discovery and Experimental Therapeutics Program, and the Multidisciplinary Programs in Breast Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Gastrointestinal and Thoracic Oncology and Hematologic Malignancy,Gero-oncology, Supportive Care and Palliative Medicine.

The Division of Medical Oncology provides state-of-the-art care for patients with cancer and hematologic malignancies through diagnostic evaluation, treatment and long term follow up in a clinical setting that integrates basic, translational and clinical research, as well as health outcomes.  The clinical care, education and research missions of medical oncology are closely aligned with our related divisions of hematology and cellular therapy.  In addition, Medical Oncology faculty participate with other investigators in the multidisciplinary programs in the NCI designated Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Departments of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology and Immunology, the Duke Translational Medicine Institute, Health Services Research and Health Policy and the Institute for Genome Sciences and Policy.  Patients are cared for by medical oncology faculty, physician assistants and nurse practitioners in disease specific clinics, along with surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists and other disciplines as appropriate.  The Division has teams of physicians dedicated to Breast cancer, GI cancer and Experimental Therapeutics, Hematologic Malignancies, Melanoma and Biotherapy, Renal / Prostate and GU cancers, Thoracic and Head and Neck cancer and Sarcoma.  Emphasis is placed on providing support of both the patient and family through the Cancer Patient Support Group and Cancer Survivorship initiatives.  These programs form the basis for outstanding patient care by our faculty that extends from Duke to Duke Raleigh and the Duke Oncology Network.

Our 3-year training program in Hematology/Oncology supports 22 fellows and integrates education and state-of-the-art patient care to translate discoveries in the laboratory to new advances in treatment.
